A beautifully presented and very fine antique map by William Kip (fl.c.1585-1618) and Christopher Saxton (c.1540– c.1610) of the English county of Somerset. Embellished with decorative cartouche, a galleon and a sea monster. This example, with a blank verso, probably taken from a 1607 first edition of William Camden's 'Britannia'.

An early and highly decorative map of Somerset engraved by William Kip based on surveys by the Elizabethan cartographer Christopher Saxton. First published thus, during the early years of James I's reign, in the 1607 edition of Camden's 'Britannia'.

    Condition:-
Good condition. Nicely framed and glazed. Unexamined out of the frame. The hand colouring seemingly early, the colours still bright. Usual atlas fold to the centre, with some associated parting to the paper. Very slight loss to the margin (upper left), seemingly where removed from a volume in antiquity.
