Massive 14K Seal with Intaglio c1810

This is seal was designed to be used with hot wax for sealing letters.

I have made an impression of this seal using hot wax to show that the seal works as intended and also to give a clearer image of the intaglio.

The wax impression comes in a small plastic case and is included with the seal.

This is seal is in one of the largest I have ever had the pleasure in selling. The seal has a clear touche mark for 14K – 15K. The oval base is set with a green bloodstone engraved with the intaglio of the Angus family with the motto Fortis est Veritas. The armorial crest also features a shield with various symbols, a fist folding a rose and dove. The gold mount has a pierced rim and strut handle which reveals that the back of the stone is decorated with  facet cut. The 10 struts form to produce the handle topped by a suspension loop. The seal measures 38mm x 32mm on the base x 53mm high. The seal is in 95% mint condition – the handle is leaning ever so slightly to one side
