About this item

The Essentials

Guernsey pewter master measure flagon Circa 1840 Good antique condition with age wear Rare large scale with lion mask and fleur de lis touchmarks

Description

A large Guernsey pewter master measure flagon, made as a calibrated trade vessel and built on a scale far beyond standard tavern versions. This example stands out for its height, its strong vertical form, and the unusual addition of a lion mask applied to the body.

The proportions are clean and deliberate, with a tall body rising from a wide flared base and finished with a hinged lid and double-acorn thumbpiece typical of Guernsey work. The fleur-de-lis marks to the base and handle reinforce its origin and quality. This is an incredible piece of the island's rich history.
