This style of V-shaped glass, now viewed as a design classic, was formally introduced at the 1925 Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes in Paris as a modernist take on the traditional Champagne coupe. They were originally used to hold champagne, like the flatter coupe glass. The design of the stemmed glass is intented to allow the drinker the hold the drink without warming the contents.
