FS0274 A LARGE RECLAIMED EDWARDIAN HAND CARVED MAHOGANY FIRE SURROUND

A very elegant and decorative, reclaimed, Edwardian hand carved mahogany fire surround. The surround is of a large size, ideal for a reception room and is of a quality design and in very good condition. The fire surround has fluted detailing that runs down the legs and along the crossbar. There are carved flowers in-between the fluting on the crossbar. The mantel has carved groove detailing around the front and side edges. The mahogany has a lovely colour and has a high shine finish. There are large metal fixing tabs on the back edge of the mantel and the legs. The surround is in very good antique condition with some signs of use and age, as expected of reclaimed items. The fire surround has some knocks and chips, especially to the mantel and edges. There are some scratches and marks and the mantel has a deep scratch along it. The mantel edges have slight lifting. The sides of the legs have some indentations and residue paint or similar, from where it was fitted next to skirting board. The large metal fixing tabs have surface rust and tarnish. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is a beautiful example of early 20th Century design and it would make a wonderful feature for a fireplace in a period home.
