    About this item

A very large and heavy, reclaimed, carved oak fire surround. We believe the surround was made in the early 1900's, C1900-1910 and has been designed to emulate the historical styles of the Jacobean and Tudor eras. The ornate fire surround has a handsome design with corbels below the mantel with decorative leaves carved into them. In-between the corbels there are pretty carved panels with decorative borders. The oak has a thick mantel with a slightly waved front edge, giving the surround a rustic look. The top of the fire opening has an arched section. The oak was painted and it has been hand stripped and the oak has been waxed, highlighting the woods attractive colour and grain.

The surround is in good antique condition with some signs of its age, as expected. There are small amounts of residue paint left, mainly on the feet. The mantel has an uneven, slightly wavy, front edge. The oak has some notches, knocks and chips. The oak has some cracks, light damage and uneven areas and edges. Please see pictures for condition details. The surround is a very imposing and interesting period item and would make a fantastic statement piece for a home or business.
