About this item
A large and very heavy, reclaimed, Edwardian carved oak fire surround. The surround has an ornate appearance, typical of the era, with column style legs and panelled detailing with arched tops along the crossbar. There is a shelf above the legs and small column deigns in-between the panelled detailing. The corners, under the mantel, have squares with mouldings and a design inside the square. The fire surround has had a darker finish applied to the oak but this is fading and there is colour variation and you may wish to sand and refinish the surround to suit.
The surround is in good solid condition with some signs of age and light damage, as expected of reclaimed antiques. There are some knocks and chips to the oak, especially the corners of the mantel and the edges of the surround. The oak has some colour variation and fading to the finish and there are some marks and stains to the mantel. There are some scratches and scuffs. The back edge of the mantel has some splintering. There is some damage to the mouldings of one of the legs, where some of the moulding has been cut away or broken. The fire surround has a hole on the right hand side, under the mantel, where a screw was placed. There is a small crack to the bottom of the inner edge of one leg. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is very large, ideal for a large reception room or business and is has a very nice Edwardian design, making it the ideal showpiece for a room.
