18thc Carved /gilded Church Column With Angel Head

Late 18th/Early 19th Century Gilded & Carved Pine Wood Column from a Church in Provence, Southern France. In unrestored condition , the column would probably have held a statue of the Virgin Mary or a Catholic Saint.
The column is carved with a traditional central cartouche incorporating an angel's face on a winged bird-like body, above which is a six pointed star and feathers etc. The reverse side with vertical fluted carving.
Measuring 41 inches tall x 16 diameter, in original condition with wear and markings from age and usage. Made locally in the French Provençal region , circa 1760-1840.
