Brief Description:
On offer is a rare and exceptional quality tall, intricately carved early 1900's wooden sculpture by Czechoslovakian Sculptor & pedagogue:
'Bohumil Kafka (1878-1942).
Bohumil Kafka was a Czech Sculptor and pedagogue. He studied in Prague with sculptor Josef V'aclav Myslbek before moving to Vienna and Paris to continue his studies. He worked in London, Berlin and Rome before returning and settling in Prague. He frequently worked in an Expressive symbolist style, was a noted animalier as well as being known for his decorative sculpture. He was considered a predecessor to the Art Nouveau style and was highly influenced by the works of Auguste Rodin. Two of his most noted works are on permanent display in Vitkov Hill, Prague, and the Prague Observatory.
The above outstanding example depicts St. Anthony Of Padua, holding Baby Jesus, and it measures a very impressive 39'' tall and dates to circa 1900-1915.
