About this item
Pair of original painted wood pillars from an English fairground in the 1930's. With carved capitals in the fashionable Art Deco 'Egyptian' style of the Inter-war period, influenced by the discoveries of Tutankhamen's tomb in Egypt - the pillars were made by Lakin's, the English carving company who made scenery for the vintage rides and sidestalls of that era.
The Pillars stand 92" tall and are in their original, now slightly worn, paint. Made by the Robert Lakin Company of Streatham, South London circa 1930-1946. In reasonable condition, the open-backed pillars were specially cut at the sides to fit on the front of the fairground show or ride.
The Columns measure 234 cms high x 64 wide(the capitals) or 27 wide (columns) x 29 deep.
