About this item
These cushions are made from a vintage Sakiori (Japanese rag blanket) that dates to the mid Showa era. (mid C20). The blanket has a decorative warp in pink and indigo cotton yarns and the weft is made from rags. These are probably recycled kimonos. The blanket is neatly woven on a narrow loom and 4 panels are sewn together to get the required width for the blanket. They make sturdy and attractive cushions with some good texture. There is a seam down the middle of each cushion where the blanket panels were joined. The cushions are backed with a vintage handwoven textile from East China which is mainly blue but has pinstripes in off white and red. There are zip fasteners and feather pads.
