About this item
This is a nice Anglo-Scandinavian silver strap-end dating to the early medieval period. The strap-end is tongue-shaped with a rounded terminal and a medial ridge. This strap-end can be categorised as Thomas (2003) Class E, Type 5 (Carolingian) (categorised as Class E, Type 6 in Thomas 2000). See also NMS-55FBD7, NMS-C179C1, and ESS-BE9A25 for comparison. It is intact with the original four pierced attachments for rivets. It is of a good weight of silver, equivalent to 8 silver pennies!
