About this item
This striking pair of cushions is made from a vintage Sumba sarong. The textile is hand woven in a technique called pahikung which refers to the supplementary decorative warp. The cotton yarns are dyed with natural colours from the morinda root and a relative of turmeric. The colours are black, rose madder, black and yellow, with ochre and green added afterwards. Both cushions are from the same sarong but the colour on one is more faded than the other. I've backed them with a jade coloured vintage hemp and there are zip fasteners and feather pads.
