About this item
A very fine quality Victorian cast iron bedroom fire surround / fire front with an attractive oak mantel. The fires design is exceptional with leaves, flowers and berries along the crossbar. The arched fire opening has an ornate border with circular shapes and lines. The iron has been stripped and lacquered and the fire has a lovely silvery finish. The original damaged mantel has been replaced with a beautiful waxed rustic oak mantel. The fire surround is designed to be paired with a fire basket and sits around the fire opening or can be used for decorative purposes in a bedroom. The oak mantel has an attractive grain and is a solid and quality piece of timber. The pairing of cast iron with oak gives the fire a unique and interesting look that would fit with period, country or rustic properties. The fire is in very good condition but has some slight signs of use, as expected of reclaimed antiques. There are some slight scratches and small casting marks and holes. The oak mantel has some surface cracks including a large one at the back of the mantel, uneven edges, and wood knots. Both sides have had repairs to the base but these repairs are very well done and not too noticeable. The fire surround is a beautiful item that would add great character to a home and paired with a fire basket would complete a hearth.
Please note we have another fire of the same design available for sale. Please see reference FS0097 for details.
