    About this item

A very pretty, petite, Victorian cast iron bedroom fire surround / fire front with an attractive oak mantel. The fire has a particularly attractive design with decorative borders and a central star motif. The fire has an ornate serpentine edge at the top of the fire opening with pretty finials. The iron has been blacked and polished giving a lovely finish. The fire has a registered design number on the back, RD178468, dating the fire to 1891. The original damaged mantel has been replaced with a beautiful waxed rustic oak mantel. The fire surround is designed to sit around a small fire opening or can be used for decorative purposes in a bedroom. The oak mantel has an attractive grain and is a solid and quality piece of timber. The pairing of cast iron with oak gives the fire a unique and interesting look that would fit with period, country or rustic properties. There are small holes for fixing screws on the legs. The fire has some signs of use and damage, as expected of reclaimed antiques. There are some slight scratches, discolouration and small casting marks and holes. The oak mantel has some slight cupping, surface cracks and some deeper splits. There has been a repaired break to the right had side of the fire surround. The surround is solid and sturdy but a thin crack can be seen on the leg and the repair can be seen at the back. The front bars are missing but could be replaced and there are holes in the legs to accommodate them. The fire surround is a beautiful item that would add great character to a home.
