About this item
An interesting Wedgwood mould with a bird and a nest to the base. This is marked “WEDGWOOD” beneath a number “91”. Beneath the Wedgwood mark is a letter “M” and “5 1/2”. It is earthenware and dates from c.1840. The number 91 is probably a pattern number and the 5 1/2 relates to the size although it is just under 5 1/2 inches long.
For a mould of this period it has extremely good definition and depth to the design. The bird is sitting on a branch and there are further trees in the background. This is all surrounded by a stiff leaf border.
Dimensions: Length13.5cm. Width 12.3cm. Depth 6.4cm.
Condition: There is one small chip to the inside of the rim and there is a further chip, on one of the high points on the design, just on the edge of the nest.
