    English gold posy ring

For many people, Valentine’s Day means that February is a month for romance, so our first item of the week is this romantic English gold posy ring. Posy rings derive their name from the word ‘poesy’, which is a derivative of the modern word poetry meaning short rhyme. The name comes from the fact that they were used to communicate secret messages of love using inscriptions on the inside, with the belief that the message increases in potency when worn against the skin.

Posy rings are increasingly being bought to be worn as wedding bands, and it’s easy to see why. This is a beautiful example, dating from c. 1650 – 1750. It is made from 22k gold, is a UK size O 1/5 and weighs 7.12 grams, with the inscription “Christ alone made us two one”.

    Price: £1,385
