Item of the week
Melissa Sturgeon “Boulangerie Viennoise” Original oil on canvas painting
Dealer: Windmill Hill Antiques
Daydreaming of a trip to Paris, to sit outside a boulangerie with a coffee and pastry? Same. In the meantime, this week’s item is this evocative painting by Melissa Sturgeon of the Boulangerie Viennoise on the corner of rue de Charenton and rue Emilio Castelar in Eastern Paris. Born in London in 1975, Melissa attended the North Oxfordshire School of Art and Design and in 1994 went on to complete her studies at Falmouth School of Art. Much of her inspiration has come from her travels around Europe and her time in Paris where she became enchanted by the city’s artisan quarter Monmarte. She created a series of paintings focusing on the built environment inspired by the notion that the buildings are not just fashioned by the aesthetics, but also by the people who visit and work in them.
This item is painted on canvas, initialled and dated 2012 by the artist in the lower right. It is in super condition in a white contemporary frame, ready to hang.
Price: £1,250
