    About this item

A superb blind mans "table snuff" box, made out of one piece of Sycamore...beautifully carved with a scene from the Robert Burns poem...Tam O' Shanter, where poor Meg the horse is having her tail pulled , as the drunken farmer tries to get away over the bridge....it is also carved on the sides with a "longhorn" cow and dogs...it is known as a blind mans snuff box, as there was a gentleman who had a workshop in Ayrshire , who produced boxes like this in the late 1800's......the snuff box is in excellent condition with a very good patination.

    Scottish. C1860-80.
