FB0138 A RECLAIMED DECORATIVE CAST IRON GEORGIAN HOB GRATE FIRE INSERT

A very pretty, original, reclaimed Georgian hob grate fire insert. The hob grate has a very ornate appearance with a decorative repeating arched border. The back of the hob grate was damaged and has been replaced with an original back from another hob grate of the same era. The hob grate has the traditional warming plates on either side of the fire opening and there are decorative designs below each warming plate. There are acanthus leaves above the grill. The hob grate has curved front bars and there is a pretty design at the bottom of them. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a nice finish. 

The hob grate is in solid condition with some signs of use and wear, commensurate with its considerable age. There is a small gap to the inner leg where some light can be seen, where the new back was attached to the outer trim, on the left hand side when looking at the fire. There is also a very small gap where the right hand warming plate meets the outer trim. The back within the grill has a crack. The iron has some casting marks and pitting. The back has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The hob grate is a very fine example of Georgian design and is of a good size. The hob grate is the perfect item for adding period character and charm to a fireplace.
