About this item
An 18th century, Wedgwood, pale blue jasper portrait medallion of William Pitt the Younger. This medallion was originally modelled about 1787 and is attributed to John Flaxman. This example is extremely well modelled with fabulous undercutting, giving depth to the portrait. It is in solid pale blue jasper with white relief and it dates from c.1790. To the reverse it is impressed “WEDGWOOD” and it is also incised with the name “Pitt”. It is in excellent condition and it is framed in a period, ebonised wood frame. There is slight damage to the outer rim of the frame.
