About this item

Introduction to Pressed Glass

Pressed glass used metal moulds to form repeatable shapes that caught the light with crisp edges. British makers in the mid 20th century produced coloured table glass in strong hues such as cobalt blue. Candlesticks like these were popular for everyday dining and small decorative displays.

Description of the Candlesticks

Each candlestick is built on an octagonal base that rises through a faceted, tapering stem to an octagonal drip tray and a straight candle socket. The geometry is consistent across the pair, giving a balanced silhouette and a steady stance on the table.

The cobalt glass shows bright transmission through the thinner walls and a darker tone through the thicker base and sconce. Facets along the stem and around the bases create sharp reflections that emphasise the blue colour and the crisp moulded lines.

Condition

Light surface wear with fine scratches and tiny bubbles from manufacture. Both remain free of chips or cracks and display cleanly as a matching pair.

Why You Should Buy

A true pair with crisp facets that throw saturated blue light across the table.
