Kanal 1970s Academy Cinema Uk Quad Film Poster, Peter Strausfeld

Rare, atmospheric and full of presence. A real standout piece of Academy Cinema design, this original 1970s UK Quad for Kanal has all the graphic force and dramatic tension collectors love in Peter Strausfeld’s work. The bold turquoise ground, stark black line work and expressive woodcut-style figures give the poster an immediacy that feels raw, powerful and completely unforgettable.

Directed by Andrzej Wajda, Kanal is one of the defining films of post-war Polish cinema. Set during the Warsaw Uprising, it is a harrowing, deeply human war drama that helped establish Wajda as one of Europe’s most important directors. The intensity of the film is perfectly echoed in Strausfeld’s stripped-back, emotionally charged design.

Issued for London’s legendary Academy Cinema, this poster also carries the cachet of one of Britain’s most influential repertory cinemas, famous for bringing world cinema to adventurous audiences. Strausfeld was central to that identity, creating hand-crafted posters that gave Academy releases a look unlike anything else on the streets. Pieces like this are not just film posters, but key works of British graphic design.

This vintage movie poster is sized 30 x 40 inches inches and will be sent rolled (unframed)
