A Wonderful piece of  mid 19th century Folk Art. This Sailors woolwork or 'woolie' picture depicts a three masted Merchant ship under full sail flying the Red Ensign and pennant from the main mast. These woolies were crafted by sailors in their off duty time and are often the ships that they had sailed on. A popular pastime for sailors between 1840 - WW1 they were already used to handling a needle and thread/twine for sail and rigging repairs. Framed in a faux walnut frame and glazed.
