    George II silver Half Crown, 1746, LIMA
    Obverse: Older laureate and draped bust left, LIMA below toothed border surrounding legend: GEORGIUS.II. DEI.GRATIA.
    Reverse: Crowned cruciform shields, nine strings to Irish harp, garter star at centre, date either side of top crown, toothed border surrounding latin legend; M.B.F.ET. H.REX. F.D.B. ET.L.D.S.R.I. A.T ET.E.
    edge inscribed in raised letters, .DECVS. ET. TVTAMEN. ANNO. REGNI. DECIMO. NONO.
    Practically as struck with a light golden tone and mint bloom, showing a superb portrait, a truly handsome example.

    *The LIMA coins were only minted in 1745-46 using a large hoard of captured silver  from the Spanish by Admiral Anson's squadron operating in the Pacific Ocean. The word "LIMA" engraved under the bust is a reference to the fact that the Spanish silver was being shipped from Lima back to mainland Spain when it was captured by Admiral Anson.
