Rare 1936 Lionel No.1103 Peter Rabbit Chick-Mobile Floor Toy Boxed Key, Working

A rare and highly collectible Lionel No. 1103 Peter Rabbit Chick-Mobile floor toy dating from C.1934. Produced by the Lionel Corporation of New York under licence from the Beatrix Potter characters, this charming pre-war clockwork toy features Peter Rabbit in his distinctive red waistcoat pulling a basket mounted on a yellow wheeled chassis. The floor version is fitted with smooth disc wheels and was designed for use as a free-running toy rather than on railway track. The toy retains its original winding key and the clockwork mechanism has been tested and is in good working order, winding smoothly and operating as intended. The original side identification decal remains present and readable. Also included is the original silver-labelled box, retaining evidence of the original pink internal packing insert, now absent. Two chick figures are included with the toy. Constructed from painted composition, tinplate and steel, the Peter Rabbit Chick-Mobile was only produced for a short period and is one of Lionel's most sought-after character toys. Complete examples with their original box and key are increasingly difficult to find. A wonderful addition to any collection of Beatrix Potter memorabilia, Lionel toys, vintage clockwork toys or early twentieth-century nursery collectibles.

Condition Report

Good vintage condition. The clockwork mechanism is in good working order and winds smoothly using the original key, which shows only normal age-related wear. Peter Rabbit displays well with expected age-related crazing and minor paint wear. Light surface corrosion is present to the chrome handle, together with a small area of wear/corrosion to the yellow-painted rim beneath the basket. The original box is present but heavily worn, with tears to the corners, creasing, staining and general storage wear. The original pink internal insert is missing. A very presentable and scarce pre-war example in good condition
