This is an ancient Roman gold Solidus of emperor Valens, dating to 364 - 378 A.D.

This coin was struck at the Nicomedia mint, mintmark SMNI. This coin has seen some circulation and exhibits consistent wear and light graffiti scratches. A good example that had been graded as 'good very fine' by Baldwins.
