Original Michele Tramontana watercolour of Ramsey quayside boats Dated 1975, from his early Isle of Man period Watercolour and ink on paper, mounted and framed under glass Good framed condition with light age wear Shows harbour buildings, moored boats and the hill above RamseyDescription
This is an original 1975 watercolour by Michele Tramontana, the Sicilian-born artist who moved to the Isle of Man in 1966. It shows Ramsey quayside with harbour buildings, moored boats, open water and the hill rising behind the town.
Ramsey became one of Tramontana’s main painting subjects, and his harbour views were later chosen for an Isle of Man Post stamp issue. The 1975 date places this work before the opening of Ramsey Art Gallery, giving it a direct link to his earlier Manx painting years.
The composition is different from the bridge view, with the focus here on the quayside, the boats and the town set below the hill. The loose ink lines and pale watercolour washes keep the harbour scene light, with the darker boats and hillside giving the picture its structure.
