About this item
William Greaves (1852-1938) was born in Leeds and studied at Sheffield College of Art. He travelled and exhibited widely at galleries including the Royal Academy, Royal Cambrian Academy, Manchester and Liverpool. He worked mostly in oils and his subjects include landscapes in and around Wharfedale in Yorkshire and Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire.
"The Birch Wood by the River, Burley, Wharfedale" is an oil painting on board measuring 12"x 9". It is signed lower right and is in an English hand finished gold leaf frame giving an overall size of 17"x 14". It is inscribed on the back by the artist.
