About this item
A fine Bow porcelain allegorical figure of Earth represented by Ceres as part of the four elements with original metal candle arm and porcelain sconce. Set on a raised scrolled and fenestrated base, Ceres stands in front of a reclining lion, holding a large cornucopia of flowers and fruit and proffering a posy in her left hand. Red anchor and dagger mark to the base, c.1765-1774.
She measures 24cm (9 1/2") high, 20cm (8") wide and 9.5cm (3 3/4") deep.
Condition is good: there has been some very good quality restoration to her left arm and a small section of the base. Two chips to the edge of the candle sconce rim tucked out of obvious sight and a short hairline also to the rim. The original metal cap that fitted over the screw inside the sconce is missing and the sconce has been invisibly attached to the candle arm so is fully stable. The usual minor chips to a few petals and leaves. There is a firing crack under the base from the candle arm hole which has been stabilised with two staples.
