About this item
You are viewing a lovely bronze casting of a bronze buddha, a
finely crafted seated bronze figure of Guanyin (Kwan Yin), the
Bodhisattva of Compassion in East Asian Buddhism
Circa 1930 and with lovely patina to the bronze
Guanyin is seated in the lotus position (padmasana) upon a double-lotus pedestal base. Her right hand is raised in the vitarka mudra (gesture of teaching or discussion), while the left hand rests in her lap, holding a small vase or flask — a common symbol of the nectar of compassion
Right hand raised in the vitarka mudra (gesture of teaching), left hand cradling a vase symbolising the nectar of compassion
This piece likely originates from China or Japan, possibly dating to the late Qing Dynasty or early 20th century, and would have served as an altar statue in a temple or a home shrine
