About this item
An attractive child’s plate with a transfer print of a beehive to the centre. This is titled “INDUSTRY LEARN TO LIVE”. Bees swarm around the hive and this is surrounded by a transfer printed band of flowers and foliage. The rim is also moulded with flowers and foliage and the whole is highlighted in red, pale green, blue and yellow enamels. The reverse is impressed with a crown and this is one of the marks used by James and Ralph Clews. It dates from c.1820.
It is in excellent condition.
