About this item
This very finely potted porcelain cup was made by the Rathbone factory of Tunstall, Staffordshire. It has been decorated with a bat printed rural scene of two women walking down a road near a herd of cattle. In the middle distance is a large house and further back is the steeple of a church. The piece is further enhanced with silver lustre to the rim and handle, with a silver lustre line to the inside and another outside near the base. The bute shaped cup is illustrated on page 50 of Ian Harvey's book "Rathbone China and Earthenware Manufacturers" 2018, and the pattern is shown on page 137. The diameter is 86 mm (3 3/8 ths inches) and it stands 56 mm high (2.1/4 inches). It does have some very faint crazing and a piece of frit has adhered to the glaze.
