FB0124 AN ORIGINAL ORNATE WIDE GEORGIAN HOB GRATE FIRE DECORATIVE USE

A decorative, original, hob grate fire, likely to date to the Georgian era. The wide hob grate has an ornate design with heavily patterned legs featuring ovals with flowers in them. The centre of the hob grate has flowers within circles. The hob grate top has the traditional flat warming plates on either side of the fire opening. The opening for the grill is curved and there are four front bars. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a nice finish. The hob grate is in solid condition but has had some repairs to damage and some signs of age, as expected, and is now suited for decorative purposes only. The back plate, within the grill area, is a replacement that has been bolted on with new metal tabs. There is a crack to the left hand warming plate, near the grill opening. There is a crack within the grill area on the left hand side. The crack has been repaired but the hob grate is now suited for decorative purposes. The grill has some wear and damage. The iron has some marks, knocks, pitting and casting marks. The back of the hob grate has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The hob grate is a wonderful example of Georgian design and is of a great size. The hob grate is the perfect item for adding period character to a fireplace.
