    About this item

This good quality campaign decanter box is made of oak, which was stained a reddish colour, and has brass edging. The walls of the piece are 14 mm thick, which is a touch over half an inch, and it carries a good quality Bramah lock. The box stands 286 mm (11.25 inches) high, is 245 mm (9 5/8ths of an inch) wide, and 143 mm (5 5/8ths inches) deep. The interior is lined with dark blue velvet. The decanters are replacements and are in very good condition, with only some very small chips to the bases to detract from them. There is also a bruise to the bottom of one of the stoppers. With the decanters in place it weighs just under 7 kilograms (15.5 pounds). C 1800.

So-called Campaign furniture and equipment was made for military officers, explorers, and administrators travelling to the far-flung corners of the British Empire. All pieces were cleverly and robustly made to withstand the rigours of travel to places where the roads if they even existed, were not for the faint-hearted. Items like this decanter box enabled the owner to take some of the creature comforts of home with him on his travels.

Condition : The decanters are replacements and are in very good condition, with only some very small chips to the bases to detract from them. There is also a bruise to the bottom of one of the stoppers. The box itself is in very good condition.
