About this item
A Fascinating Pair Of Silvered Brass Coasters
Shaped as Giant French 1 Écu Louis XVI Coins from 1788
Unmarked but possibly by Valenti, Spain
1960’s-1970’s
Measure:-
10.4 cm diameter (each)
A talking point pair of giant coin coasters.
These coasters are in the shape of the much enlarged reverse side of Louis XVI one écu coins dating to 1788 (the year before the French Revolution). They bear the arms of France with a crowned fleur-de-lis plaque and the text "Sit Nomen Domini Benedictum". They probably date to the 1960's or 70's and are possibly made by the Spanish modern design firm 'Valenti' who made almost identical items which bear their mark.
