Rare & antiquarian books: Collections & Souvenirs de Malmaison. Appartements, Meubles et Décoration. Introduction de M. Jean Bourguignon, Conservateur du Palais National de Malmaison. Published by Devambez, 23 Rue Lavoisier, Paris under the sign ‘Au Masque d’Or’. A 27 page introduction in French to the Château de Malmaison, with 44 individual photographic plates (No. 1 missing) of the house, grounds, decoration and furniture. Loose leaves contained within green cloth-bound folio boards with marbled paper covers and brown title block surrounded by the Greek key pattern. Secured by ribbon to outer edges. Good+ condition with rubbing to outer board paper covers and mild discolouration to pages. All plates present, bar No. 1, Façade principale du Château. Heliotype photographs by A. Bourdier.

Château de Malmaison, near the western bank of the Seine, about 15km west of the centre of Paris was formerly the home of the Empress Joséphine de Beauharnais, the headquarters of the French government from 1800 - 1802 and Napoleon’s last residence in France in 1815 before his exile.
The printers, Devambez, was a high quality business established by the royal engraver Hippolyte Brasseux in 1826, becoming Devambez in 1873. Clients included the House of Orléans, the House of Bonaparte and the Élysée Palace. Winning numerous medals and honours, the company was recognised as one of the finest printers in Paris, producing luxurious limited edition books and becoming an important art gallery.
