About this item
A lovely quality, 19th century, stoneware cheese plate and dome. This is made from a rich, coffee coloured stoneware which is applied with sprig moulded reliefs of Apollo and five of the Muses. Each relief is set within an oval frame of acanthus leaves and both the plate and the cover have borders of a Greek Key pattern. This is both a very decorative and functional piece. There are no manufacturers marks, just a small, impressed workman’s mark, but the piece was probably made by the Dudson pottery.
English. Staffordshire. Date c.1860.
Condition: There are two marks on the rim of the plate but these are due to the removal of kiln stilts in the manufacture. There is a similar mark to the inside of the rim of the cover and there are a few tiny pieces of the spigging missing. This can be seen in the images.
Dimensions: Overall diameter 30.8cm. Overall height 21cm.
Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £50. Most of Western Europe add £20.
