A rare George III English Provincial silver bread or cake basket. Made in Newcastle in 1814 by John Walton. Walton first registered his makers mark in 1811, for several years he was in partnership with John Robertson Jnr. He was one of the largest plate and jewellery makers in Newcastle, he retired in 1866. The basket is in excellent condition with no damage or repairs. The handle sits upright by itself and the basket sits flat on a table. It has a full set of Newcastle hallmarks and an original owners crest. It has a cast border and engraved designs on the rim. A rare collectors piece.
