    About this item

Frederick Tucker was one of a family of talented painters who lived and worked in the English Lake District, painting around the Lake District and Scottish Borders. He exhibited with the Lake Artists Society for longer than anyone else in his family.

Frederick's father Edward settled in Langdale in 1865.  His sons were Edward, who changed his name to Arden, Alfred, who changed his name to Maile, gave up professional painting and entered the church, later becoming bishop of Uganda, Hubert, who changed his name to Coutts, Frederick, and Arthur.  All but Alfred were founder members of the Lake Artists Society in 1904.  The Tuckers travelled to paint throughout the British Isles, exhibiting widely. Frederick later settled permanently in Stroud, Gloucestershire.

"The Shades of Autumn, Braithwaite, Cumberland" is a large and impressive watercolour, one of Frederick's finest paintings. Measuring 23" x 37" it is signed lower left and is framed in a good quality gilt frame giving an overall size of 35"x 49". A superb large painting of the English Lake District.
