About this item
John Sowden (1838-1926) was a Bradford born watercolour painter specialising in landscapes, portraits and still life. In the early 1860s, John set up a studio in Stirling Street, off Manchester Road, Bradford, where he committed himself to portrait and landscape painting. He exhibited widely and his work is now found in public and private galleries throughout the U.K.
"Ravenscar, Sunset", is an atmospheric watercolour painting by Sowden. Measuring 7"x 10" it shows an attractive view on the Yorkshire coast. It is signed lower left and is mounted and framed giving an overall size of 15"x 18".
