About this item
An athmospheric French Barbizon landscape, dating from circa 1850. It depicts a peasant woman working by a river on a spring morning. It is a work by Charles Antoine Amand Lenglet, an artist born 1791 in Levergies.
Having spent his youth in Saint Quentin in the North of France, Lenglet came to Paris to become an engraver, but had a remarkable career as a jeweller. He would sell his thriving business to paint and sculpt full time.
His work was first shown at the Salon des Artistes Français en 1846.
Measured without the frame, the canvas size is 27 x 41 cm
