Sam McLarnon was born in 1924, in Larne County Antrim for most of his life until his sad passing in March 2012 at the age of 89, before his death he still painted almost every day.
After studying in his home town and receiving several awards which illustrated his natural talent for art, Sam earned a scholarship to become an art teacher. His true vocation however was to be as a painter and most of his work focused on the beautiful Northern Irish coastline.
Soon Sam opened his own studio in Larne where he created commercial posters as well as the coastal art for which he is now so renowned. He was the central figure of the local art scene in Larne and the surrounding areas for the best part of the 20th Century having helped found the Larne Art Club as well as the Ulster Watercolour Society, and Carnlough Art Club.
