    20th Century painting by British artist Philip Le Bas. Oil on board Framed size 37.75 x 54 ins (96 x 138 cm) About the artist: Philip Le Bas was born in St. Quentin de Baron, Gironde, Bordeaux to a French mother and a father from the Channel Islands. The family were wine growers and his cousin, Edward le Bas RA was an eminent English Impressionist painter. Following service in the RAF during the war Philip studied painting at the Regent Street Polytechnic from 1948 to 1951 and at Brighton College of Art from 1951 to 1952. He married in 1956, and began teaching art in schools and colleges to support his growing family of four children. He Showed with the Young Contemporaries in 1950, at the Royal Academy for many years and and at the Walker Art Gallery from 1953 to 57r's Galleries between 1953 and 1957. Solo shows included Heffer Gallery in Cambridge from 1955 to 1957, Trafford Gallery in 1956 and 1958 and the Piccadilly Gallery in 1960. His work is represented in a number of public galleries. He was commissioned to paint the Stations of the Cross in the church of Our Lady of the Visitation in Greenford, Middlesex. He was elected to Royal Society of British Artists in 1953 and to the New English Art Club in 1956. He exhibited exclusively with Portal Gallery since 1966.
