    Available for sale from Big Sky Fine Art in the English county of Dorset, this original painting is by the French artist Victor Gabriel Gilbert and dates from the period 1900 to 1920.
    The painting is presented and supplied in its original substantial and ornate frame (which is shown in these photographs).
    This antique painting is in very good condition, commensurate with its age. It wants for nothing and is supplied ready to hang and display.
    The painting is signed lower left.

    Victor Gabriel Gilbert was a highly successful French artist and a key figure in late nineteenth century French art, straddling the French Realist and Impressionist movements. He exhibited at the Paris Salon and was patronised by Pierre Martin. One of his 1880 works earnt him a First Medal and a Second-Class award and was purchased by the State. He was awarded a Silver Medal by the Societe Artistes Francais, received the Bonnat prize and was elected Chevalier de Legion d’Honneur in 1897.
