About this item
A Benhams, Brunswick star design copper mould. This is marked with the orb and cross symbol used by Benhams and it dates from c.1870. It is also stamped "REGISTERED SEPTEMBER 15 1864" This was the year the design was registered. The Brunswick star is used to surround the Royal Cypher on various badges including those of the police and the fire service in Great Britain. Brunswick refers to the German Duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg which is better known as the principality of Hanover and, of course, the rulers of the House of Hanover also became kings of Great Britain. There is very minor denting to the points of the star but other than that it is in very good condition. The tinning is worn.
