About this item
A nineteenth century, copper ice cream bombe mould with indented cover. Both the mould and lid are marked “BENHAM & SON LTD. WIGMORE ST. LONDON” within a strap shaped stamp and the mould is also stamped with a number ‘6'. Bombe moulds were made with this style of lid so that you could easily create a large well in the centre of the ice cream which could be filled with a fruit or chocolate sauce. The sauce would then be covered with more ice cream and, when taken to the table and cut into, the sauce would explode out from the bombe. The mould is well made, from a heavy gauge of copper, and dates from c.1890. The small brass foot enables the mould to stand but is also unscrewed to allow the ice cream to be removed from the mould more easily. It is in excellent condition and but the tinning to the interior is worn.
Dimensions: Height 12.2cm. Diameter 11.2cm.
