About this item
A large, 19th century, copper cake mould. This is well made, from quite a heavy gauge of copper, and it dates from c.1870. Moulds of this size were used for baking cakes rather than for setting jellies as it is difficult to make a jelly which is solid enough to stand over 6 inches high unless there is so much gelatine in it that it becomes inedible. This is quite an ornate design for a mould of this size with wrythen, angular fluting to the top section above rounded top wrythen fluting. The mould is in excellent condition but the tinning to the interior is worn.
