    About this item

A 19th century, French copper sugar spinner with a turned wooden handle. This would have been used for fancy sugar work. The sugar would have been caramelised in a large sugar pan and then some would be taken in the spinner and worked into fancy shapes such as baskets or nests. This example is made from a substantial gauge of copper and it dates from c.1870. There is slight pitting to the copper, consistent with use, and there is wear to the wooden handle. Otherwise it is in good condition.
