    About this item

A charming set of six late 19thc (circa 1890) cast iron garden chairs (possibly produced by the Atlanta Stove Works, USA) and a rare late 19thc (circa 1870) cast iron Christopher Dresser Coalbrookdale garden table, all with layers of original paintwork, beautifully worn and weathered with natural lichen - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:

The set of chairs each consist of a shaped back with pierced oval design to the centre with scrolling decoration with pierced circular seat each supported on decorative cabriole legs.

The chairs are similar to a design produced by Atlanta Stove Works in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The company was founded in 1889 and became the largest cast iron foundry in the USA and possibly the world, eventually closing in 1957, over the years producing a range of items from cast iron stoves to garden furniture.

The table is a rare and highly desirable late 19th century (circa 1870) Coalbrookdale cast iron circular garden table designed by Christopher Dresser in good original condition.

The table consists of a decorative pierced circular top with typical Classical designs supported by a tri-form base consisting of a central rope twist column with three scrolling supports of decorative pierced foliage decoration, each terminating with bird design feet, possibly of a swan.

The table has the Coalbrookdale diamond registration mark to the underside of the base.

Coalbrookdale was known for producing high quality castings some of the finest ironwork in the 18th and 19th centuries, their work included major engineering works, fireplaces, garden furniture etc. and also the wonderful gates in Kensington Gardens which were exhibited in the International Exhibition in London,1862, the Coalbrookdale foundry eventually closing in 2017.

Both the set of chairs and table are in good, original condition all having a weathered appearance.

Please note: we would consider selling the set of chairs and table separately.
